Secondary School Teachers added to Straight to Residence pathway.
In April, the NZ Government announced that secondary school teachers will move to the Straight to Residence pathway on the Green List of in-demand roles.
Eligible overseas secondary school teachers can now apply for residence from outside New Zealand:
- when they have an offer of employment with an accredited employer, and
- without needing to work for 2 years in New Zealand first.
Other teachers remain on the Work to Residence pathway.

Immigration New Zealand is announcing further detail on changes to the Skilled Migrant Category (SMC) ahead of these changes taking effect from late August 2026.
This scheme has already secured at least $3.39 billion in committed investment, according to Immigration NZ.
New occupations recognised under the National Occupation List and annual median wage increase.
A small number of staff will be available during this period to manage urgent or emergencies only.
INZ are making this change to speed up visa decisions and reduce delays caused by missing documents.
Most of the conditions of these visas will be the same as any Accredited Employer Work Visa.
The NOL is New Zealand’s new job classification system, replacing the Australia New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO) framework.

As of today, Immigration New Zealand is introducing this new visa which will make it easier for families to spend more time together.
The Minister of Immigration recently announced the new Business Investor Visa (BIV), expected to launch in November 2025.
