Are You a Tertiary Student?

Steve Baker • May 26, 2025

Tertiary Students with a study start date in July or August 2025 should apply now.

Please ensure you provide full and complete applications, including all necessary documentation.

If you would like an INZ student visa information sheet please let us know.

This document provides guidance on completing an application and the documents that are required, including:

  • a valid offer of place from a New Zealand education provider
  • evidence of money to live on that is from a genuine source, and will be available to the student in New Zealand

health and character evidence.

  • Health and Character evidence.

Applications should include a cover letter written by the student telling us about their circumstances and plans in New Zealand. This will help INZ assess their intent.

Some students waiting on key study documentation will not be able to apply 3 months ahead. You should apply as soon as you have all their documents.

Please be aware that late applications may not be processed in time for them to start studying.

Applicants outside of New Zealand can apply with a conditional Offer of Place.

If their provider needs to wait for the student’s academic results to confirm enrolment.

This will allow INZ to begin assessing the application and approve it in principle if other requirements are met.

An unconditional Offer of Place will be required before we can grant a visa.

If you require additional support, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
