Immigration Health Requirements

The NZ government has announced changes to the immigration health requirements for dependent children of temporary visa holders.


Dependent children of work, student or military visa holders are no longer eligible for student and visitor visas if they have a severe cognitive or developmental disability that requires significant support.


These changes align the health requirements for temporary entry visas for dependent children with those in place for resident class visas.


It also provides clarity upfront for families who might be excluded from gaining residence because their child has high learning needs.

 

There are a range of conditions for Temporary and Residence class visas that are problematic in this regard.

In essence, if the costs associated with health service provision are likely to be more than NZ$81,000, a visa application may be declined.
